A strange thing happened with Sandburg’s football schedule last year.

The two non-conference opponents the Eagles played — Lyons Township and Curie — had down years.

Lyons went 1-8 for its first losing season since 2008. It snapped a streak of nine straight Illinois High School Association playoff appearances.

Curie was 4-7, and it marked the first losing season for the Condors since 2013 and snapped a four-season streak of playoff appearances.
