The third-seeded Eagles Hockey Club needed to beat top-seeded Wheaton West twice to win the Illinois West Scholastic Varsity Championship.

They came up with a couple of nail-biting wins en route to winning the title.

The Eagles nipped Wheaton 1-0 on Feb. 21 and two days later came from behind for a 6-4 victory at the Willowbrook Ice Arena.

Thomas Cavanaugh’s third-period goal on an assist from Randy Apter was the lone score in the first meeting. Goalie Blake Kallberg racked up 29 saves.
