“The People behind the Papers” is a Q&A series featuring the employees of 22nd Century Media who play an integral role in producing 15 community newspapers. The project is designed to give readers an inside look at the personalities that drive the journalism you have read weekly in print and daily on our websites. To support the work we do, please consider subscribing at SubscribePrairie.com or through any of our other 14 newspapers.

What do you do at 22nd Century Media?

I am the sports editor of The Highland Park Landmark and Lake Forest Leader. I cover Highland Park, Lake Forest, Lake Forest Academy and Woodlands Academy athletics. That involves taking photos, writing stories and using social media to update fans.

What does your job at 22nd Century Media mean to you?

It means a lot! This is my first real job post-college, and I love that I get total freedom over my sports sections. Working here has made me a much better overall journalist.

What is the most memorable story you've written during your time here?

My favorite type of story to write are game recaps, and I'm proud of this one from Highland Park football's win over Vernon Hills last October.

What have you learned about the community you cover that you otherwise might not have known?

I've learned that there's great school spirit all over the North Shore. It makes my job a lot more fun.

What do you like to do for fun when you're not working?

I enjoy listening to music, running and video games.

What's one thing even your co-workers probably don't know about you?

I have a fake tooth because of a skateboarding accident. Otherwise, I've never broken a bone.

What is your perfect work lunch situation?

A Caesar salad with veggie sticks and a granola bar.

How are you riding out this COVID-19 pandemic?

I'm practicing social distancing while doing my best to provide updates on Lake Forest and Highland Park athletics.
