The Orland Fire Protection District Board of Trustees named an interim acting fire chief at its regular meeting in response to Fire Chief Ken Brucki’s reported request for a leave of absence.

The Fire Board voted unanimously Aug. 25 to appoint Battalion Chief Michael Schofield as the interim acting fire chief for the duration of Brucki’s absence.

Brucki requested a leave of absence with pay Aug. 21 for an indefinite period of time because of “personal issues,” district spokesperson Ray Hanania said at the meeting.

Thank you for your wonderful coverage of the Sandburg Eagles Football team this year. I am Patrick Brucki's proud grandmother and you were very perceptive in capturing the character, determination and integrity of Pat. He is a truly admiral young man and a born leader. Further, the Eagles this year became a brotherhood that cared, supported & encouraged each other. They were inspiring and a joy to watch.
