The homemade lasagna ($3.99 per pound) at Rubino’s Italian Imports can be ordered at the counter and comes served with just ricotta cheese, or the addition of ground beef, spinach or both. Rebecca Susmarski/22nd Century Media

Customers who first walk into Rubino’s Italian Imports might assume it to be a good place to buy items to make authentic Italian meals at home. Though they would be correct, there is more to the market than meets the eye.

Those who venture past the stocked aisles and toward the red, white and green walls of the deli will find a slew of homemade Italian dishes for sale. Reminiscent of a deli in New York’s Little Italy, staff members rush to prepare roast beef, meatballs, eggplant Parmesan and other items from scratch.
