Brian G. Bell, 27, of Chicago Heights was charged with retail theft, financial identity theft and possession of a fake Illinois driver's license at JC Penney, 3 Orland Square Drive at 7:45 p.m. Bell attempted to purchase a $300 gift card at JC Penney with the fraudulent credit card. Nothing further was reported.
At Cachey Park South, 157th Street and Lake Hills Court, at 10:26 p.m. a report was made of a smell of smoke and possible house fire. When police arrived, they found two Port-a-Johns engulfed in flames. Orland Fire reported to the scene and extinguished the fires. The incident was classified as criminal damage to property.
At 15100 Ravinia Avenue, Benjamin P. Fetzer, 32, of Orland Park was charged with possession of a controlled substance at 8:18 p.m. A report was made that Fetzer discarded cocaine across the street near the dumpsters. The suspect cocaine substance was found and measured at 6.2 grams. Fetzer was scheduled to appear at the Bridgeview Courthouse on Sept. 22 at 9 a.m.
A 39-year-old male was charged with other trouble at 13538 Tall Grass Trail at 11 a.m. when he accidentally shot himself in the hand with a gun he found outside his work. The man said he tried opening the gun when it went out. The police went to the man's home to confiscate the gun and keep it away from his children.
Dustin A. McMahon, 19, of Orland Park was charged with illegal possession and consumption of liquor by a minor after a complaint was called in about a group of juveniles at a party at 9335 Dunmurry Drive. McMahon was found outside the house staggering around outside and admitted drinking to police, but said he was not driving. When police discovered his age, they drove him to his residence. McMahon will appear in Orland Park Civic Center on Oct. 9 at 9 a.m.
Monther E. Zayed, 29, of Orland Park was charged with assault at 16628 Grants Trail at 11:10 p.m. Zayed reportedly threatened to shoot a man who he engaged in a physical fight with Sept. 24. No physical contact was made during this incident, but Zayed was found leaving the block of the man he reportedly made threats to. Zayed told police he "was only there to talk." Zayed will report for a hearing at the Orland Park Civic Center on Oct. 9 at 1 p.m.
Daniel J. Giannola, 19, of Lockport was charged with illegal possession and consumption of liquor by a minor, no rear registration plate lights and driving on a suspended or revoked license at the 1000 block of 159th Street at 12:58 a.m.Giannola posted the $1,000 bond and will appear at Bridgeview Courthouse Oct. 23 at 10:30 a.m. and Oct. 9 at the Orland Park Civic Center at 9 a.m.
