Terry’s Lincoln owner Terry Kunes (left) smiles ...
January 15, 2013 After 42 years in business, Terry's Lincoln will close its doors for good in Orland Park.
"I made the decision awhile ago to relocate," owner Terry Kunes said. "But with the loss of the Mercury franchise, the best business decision was to seek out another franchise and sell the Lincoln franchise to Joe Rizza, who is a very good dealer and friend of mine.
"I am sure that we will take very good care of our customers which was of primary concern."
Kunes said that Terry's is committed to continuing to care for its customers, including those with warranties on their vehicles, at its Peotone location at 363 S. Harlem Ave.
There are plenty of memories for Kunes over the past 40 years since Terry's opened in Orland Park.
"The shopping center [Orland Square Mall] wasn't here when I started," he said. "We were located in what's now Zimmerman & Sandeman Funeral Home."
The current location at 9401 W. 143rd St. was built in 1979. It was announced in August that the site had been purchased to build a Pete's Fresh Market grocery store.
"There's no place like Orland Park," Kunes said. "It's a well-run city and I couldn't have been more happy here. I've enjoyed it immensely, with the support we've received from the people and the Village. We've got a lot of friends here.
"It's disappointing to me that we've had to make this decision. My plans were definitely to be the Lincoln-Mercury dealer until I went to work for God."
Kunes said the plan is to be open for business and customer service through Friday, Feb. 1, when the dealership will officially close for business.
"I'd like to take this opportunity to thank our customers, many of who have been with us for 42 years," Kunes said. "We very much appreciate their friendship and support."
Kunes said customers should keep an eye out for future plans for a new dealership at www.terrys.com.
