This is good news- encouraging news. Why should the Village pay for the criminal behavior of poorly raised children? I hope the parents are really feeling this financial loss. Maybe it will finally open their eyes. And the three that haven't set up payment plans? What's their hold up? I hope the judge reads them the riot act and tells them they WILL pay what they owe.
Parents responsible for childrens actions
May 21, 2010 | 08:47 AM
I believe the parents should be held 100% responsible, for thier childrens actions, in the destruction of the parks property. This way, the perents can deal with their childs actions as they see fit. If the parents choose to ignore "their problem," at least the taxpayers won't be responsible for the $79,000.00 !!!
KEP Orland Park
Coffee Talk With Andy
May 20, 2010 | 07:46 AM
I thoroughly enjoyed this session & commend the Village of Orland Park for inviting Andy Avalos to address its seniors. Andy was very informative & entertaining. I've been a long time viewer of Channel 5 News & Weather & Andy is just as nice in person as he appears on TV. Kudos to Orland Park for inviting Andy Avalos to be a guest speaker.
Maria Gonzolez from Wet Seal store in orland mall
May 12, 2010 | 07:16 PM
I was falsely accused of a crime i did not commit my first time entering wet seal store by a woman maria gonzolez the manager. At the scene of the crime they checked me and my belongings but nothing was found i didnt run or cause a disturbance. I complied with maria gonzolez and the security guard. The police showed up they completely lied on me. I was simply in the wroung place at the wroung time. I had no help in the justice system simply because i have no funds for a lawyer and was assured by public attorneys that "we (they) all work together most of the time and that bridgeview have a 97% conviction rate" meaning that if i wouldve plead not guilty for the fourth time i would have been sent to jail for atleast a year with a $2000 bond that i do not have trying to prove my innocense. Because of maria gonzolez lying like that my life have gotten so much harder. I cant find a job anywhere. I cry almost everyday thinking where my life could have been if it wasnt for me walking in her store that day. Maybe she was having a bad day but that was no excuse for her to lie on a innocent customer. I just want everyone to know that god does see everything and everyone the truth will come out one day. May god have mercy on her soul because she have put me through hell but i know it will get better one day.
Closing of Orland Plaza
April 29, 2010 | 06:38 AM
The decision to close Orland Plaza, one of the few thriving shopping centers in Orland Park is ludicrous. There is no need for additional retail and condos in Orland Park, take a look around at all the space that is currently empty. The mayor says that he understands people are upset but will change their minds when they see the new plan. I disagree, people have been shopping at the Plaza for 30 years; let them continue to do so, make this a decision made by the people of Orland not the bureaucrats and a judge.
"The legality and propriety of the village's taking of property
April 22, 2010 | 11:26 AM
One of the the very few plazas in this economic crisis that is full of tenants. Across the street from a very vacant Orland Park Crossing shopping center. The land owner is forced to sell - so the Village can spend more money. The land owner is forced to sell due to the decision of a single judge with no mention of an appeal process. Personally, I'm shocked that there are no more comments about this "process." As a VFW, I fought overseas to protect our citizen's rights - not to watch them disappear through a disenchanting legal process.

Selling of Orland Plaza
April 13, 2010 | 10:24 PM
I think the decision of a random judge to grant the village their rights to take the stores at Orland Plaza is completely outrageous. Why couldn't the people who live in Orland Park have a vote or say in the matter. I have shopped at the stores in the plaza for over 30 years. We don't need more housing and roads near the train station. Everything is fine just the way it is now!

Sarah was a great volleyball player at Sandburg. I remember watching her when I was in 8th grade and she was a senior. She was awesome.
Its so cool to see her on TV. She does a great job.
Thanks for writing about Sarah. I know myself and a lot of former Eagles are happy for her.

As a 97 Sandburg alum its great to see a fellow Eagle doing well. Thanks to the Prairie for featuring one of Orlan Park's many successful stories. I Would love to see a follow up on Zak Kustok to. He was as good a high school qb as I've seen. Best of luck to Sarah!
Keep me smiling Matt Foley
April 08, 2010 | 11:36 AM
I'm a child of the 60's. Don't like computers much and therefore don't use them much. However, I make it a point to read Matt Foley's column every chance I get. He makes me smile and down right roar with laughter. Sharing with the readers his childhood experiences as well as his experiences as a father of a teen age driver really hit home. In so many of his stories I saw myself doing exactly what he did. You can't make that stuff up! Just wanted to say, "Thank You Matt" for bringing laughter into my life and taking me back to those "Good Old Days" which I so dearly miss.

meijer coming soon.
April 07, 2010 | 09:12 AM
Just wanted to let you know- I personally emailed the Orland Park Commission Board last summer- clearly advising them that the vacant lot would be a great site for a meijer store, but by reading this it appears they want the credit for the idea. They need to scroll through their yahoo emails ;)

Regarding your picture of Alex Pajak (Sandburg Girl's track) above: She finished in 2nd place, not 5th. Thanks.

I tried calling them and their recording said to call during "normal business hours." I called before noon. What do they consider "normal business hours?"

Just wondering: What is the expected life of the new turf?
March 30, 2010 | 01:01 PM
This could be the silliest thing I've ever heard. Should we run things by you to determine severity and thusly, whether or not to pursue justice? I guess you'd be comfortable letting us know your address and the times you won't be home so that would-be burglars can come to your home and rob you. Theft is theft! Just because the scale is smaller, I refuse to turn a blind eye. Those morons broke into a secured locker with intent to steal and that's what they did. What other crimes should we as a society ignore so the more popular crimes get their attention? And what are those crimes? Should we let everything but drug busts and murder go unpunished or prosecuted?

Young men always get introuble in Orland Park every where i go i find trouble! Supporting Orland Businesses
March 29, 2010 | 04:12 PM
The only Orland Park businesses that I support are my few doctors. Other than that I shop outside of Orland Park as much as I possibly can. It's not that I do not want to support Orland Park businesses but rather that I refuse to pay the higher taxes of Cook County.

Why not have the presentation at one of the Schools, before the student body, instead of spending more taxpayer money for non educational purposes. It's time to start being watchfull and responsible to the taxpayers.
